St Tropez in one of
a handful of place names known around the world, and for many,
the very mention of the name conjures up images of the ultimate
hedonistic jet set resort. The millionaire playboys are very
much there in force, dining on the decks of their huge yachts in
the harbour or ensconsed in enormous villas on the nearby
peninsula.
While St Tropez may have lost
some of the magic it had in its glory days of the fifties and
sixties, it's still somewhere that everyone should visit at
least once. Sitting at one of the famous cafes on the old port,
drinking a beer, offers a "people watching" experience
unequalled anywhere else in the world. Like many of the
Riviera's famous resorts, St Tropez began life as a small
fishing village, and visiting in the winter months it's possible
to see what the town must have been like before the celebrities
arrived. |
